FIRST – CYCLE STUDIES
Mining and Geology involves training students in the fields of key importance for the economy, based on theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The main purpose is to give our students a strong educational background with high professional qualifications, ready to meet the challenges posed engineers in Poland, other countries in Europe and in the world. Environmental Engineering involves training students in the fields of key importance for the economy based on theoretical knowledge and practical skills. With the continuing pressure on the environment, steadily increasing the need for training new staff of graduates in the field of the environmental engineering. This field, related to technical sciences deals with, among other things, engineering projects seeking to maintain acceptable environmental situation and use it in a sustainable way in order to preserve its natural self-cleaning capabilities. According to the development strategy of AGH UST, one of the most important tasks in the field of education is to extend the educational offer over new directions. Ecological Sources of Energy offers classes in modern laboratory RES Miękinia, so students will be able to receive high professional qualifications. SECOND – CYCLE STUDIES
Students of this speciality are introduced to the specific field of petroleum geology and geophysics where they gradually deepened issues related to the analysis of sedimentary basins, subsurface cartography and petrophysics. Against this background, there are presented issues of geology, geochemistry, petroleum systems modeling in terms of generation and migration of hydrocarbons and petroleum reservoir engineering. Surface geochemical surveys are also significant in terms of exploration, as well as for monitoring of hydrocarbon emissions. Students master the advanced computer programs which are applied in the oil industry. Graduates find employment in petroleum industry (Poland, England, Italy, France, Norway, USA, Australia), scientific research units, as well as in the energy sector. Graduates of this interdisciplinary speciality are well prepared to evaluate and calculate the resources and to design the location, type, size, and other parameters of energy investments based on unconventional power (geothermal energy, solar energy, water, wind and biomass), depending on the needs of potential users. They learn the rules for evaluating the economic efficiency of such investments and their impact on the environment. An important element of the study is a practice on installations which produce renewable energy. After graduation, the alumnus can continue their education on postgraduate or on third-cycle (doctoral studies). The overall objective of education at the second-cycle of studies is to provide knowledge, skills and competence in the field of green energy sources with a special emphasis on their natural origin.
